Box Plots

A box plot is a way of graphically depicting groups of numerical data through their quartiles. Box plots may also have lines extending vertically from the boxes indicating variability outside the upper and lower quartiles. Outliners may be plotted as individual points.

To launch the box plot editor, select

Explore >

Visualization > Box Plot from the menu. Alternatively, click the icon (Image Modified) in the sidebar and

then Add new....

then add New. 

Create a Box Plot

The parameters for a box plot are defined on two tabs at the top of the page: Data and Properties.

On the

Data

Properties tab: 

  1. Select
a Data source from the list.Select
  1. an Object set from the list.
  2. Select from the Attribute list and use the arrow buttons to set attributes for X and Y.

Attributes are listed alphabetically. To find an attribute, use the scroll bar or enter the name in the search field Image Modified.

On the

Properties

Advanced tab:

  1. Enter a chart Title and select the check box if you want it to show. 
  2. Enter Font
size
  1.  Size, if required. 
  • Select Show statistics to display standard deviations and average values.
    1. Select the Temporal units you want to use
    , Excel or Unix time
    1. if X axis is time attribute, Excel time, Mac excel time, Unix time (ms) and Unix time (s).
    2. Click
    View
    1. Save to load the data.

    Control the View

    Use the control menu below the chart to modify the zoom, apply rulers to create new object sets, and to export. For more information, see Control Menu.

    The following example illustrates the electrical consumption per month for 2011.
